It was my birthday earlier this month so I had a little birthday cash to spend. What else am I going to spend it on, BOOKS!
The first book I added to my collection was Ragnarok, Vol. 2 – The Lord of the Dead by by Walter Simonson.
I love Walter Simonson, the artist and the writer. He had the best run on Marvel’s The Mighty Thor comic EVER! He is a legend. His newest project is Ragnarok. I have the first volume, so when volume 2 came out it was immediately on my want list. A great Norse mythology theme and awesome art in these books.
I will be sharing the rest of my Birthday book Haul all week.
Hope everyone enjoys!
Ragnarok, Vol. 2 – The Lord of the Dead
by Walter Simonson
Ragnarök, the doom of the gods, has finally occurred. But the long-held belief that evil would be destroyed along with the gods in that final conflagration proved false. Only the gods died. The Nine Worlds collapsed and became the Dusk Lands, a vast twilight realm inhabited by men, trolls, demons, and shattered kingdoms, under the tyranny of the Great Enemies.
After hundreds of years, a single god emerged into the post-Ragnarök world, Thor, the God of Thunder. But Angantyr, the Lord of the Dead, has discovered his reappearance, and unleashes his draugar, the undead walkers, against the Thunder God, seeking to destroy the last vestige of the former worlds, and the only hope for the present one.
Ragnarök…the Twilight of the Gods in Norse mythology…the destruction of the Nine Worlds. And now, three hundred years later, the birth of vengeance. Collects issues #1–6.
Walter Simonson returns to comics in a BIG way with an all-new series.

Some years later, he produced another version of the story in graphic novel form for Epic Comics, the Marvel Comics imprint that was a response to creator-owned lines of the early eighties. Simonson continued the adventures of the Star Slammers in a limited series in the mid-1990s as one of the founders of Malibu Comics’ short-lived Bravura label.
