Book Haul/Spotlight: Death Angel’s Shadow by Karl Edward Wagner

I have been adding many new books to my collection recently. My interest in reading has shifted to older books and authors. So I thought instead of just a simple book haul post I would do more of a spotlight/introduction post as well. So in the post below you will not only find the usual book haul photo’s, but book and author info as well. I hope you will take the time to look it over and maybe take a chance at checking out books and authors that you may have forgot about or discover in these post!

I found this copy on a Facebook page I follow. Brian’s and No BullJust Books were great to work with, fair prices, and it didn’t take forever to get my books. They have great Vintage paperbacks, you should go check them out.

Death Angel’s Shadow (1973) – Story collections

by Karl Edward Wagner

Cover Art – Frank Frazetta

A quest that took Kane into forbidden wastelands, and tested his killer skills against the most brutal forces ever summoned against a single man. Kane knew he’d lost his strength, and perhaps his soul, when he entered the erotic web of the vampire. . . .

  • “Reflections for the Winter of My Soul” – Kane meets a shapeshifting enemy who knows him (sequel to Dark Crusade).
  • “Cold Light” – a knight forms a band of crusaders and mercenaries in a quest to find and kill Kane.
  • “Mirage” – Kane meets another immortal and discovers that death is not the answer to his problems.

Karl Edward Wagner (12 December 1945 – 14 October 1994) was an American writer, poet, editor and publisher of horrorscience fiction, and heroic fantasy, who was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and originally trained as a psychiatrist. He wrote numerous dark fantasy and horror stories. As an editor, he created a three-volume set of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian fiction restored to its original form as written, and edited the long-running and genre-defining The Year’s Best Horror Stories series for DAW Books. His Carcosa publishing company issued four volumes of the best stories by some of the major authors of the so-called Golden Age pulp magazines. He is possibly best known for his creation of a series of stories featuring the character Kane, the Mystic Swordsman.

Quite a change in cover design from the 70’s to whenever that one at the bottom was released… Lol

Yes that new cover for the Amazon link is pretty bad! Nothing can stand up to the Frank Frazetta Covers!

Awesome find, mate. Love that Frazetta cover. The Gateway Essentials edition, though, is cringeworthy.
