Book Haul/Spotlight – The Book of Kane by Karl Edward Wagner

I have been adding many new books to my collection recently. My interest in reading has shifted to older books and authors. So I thought instead of just a simple book haul post I would do more of a spotlight/introduction post as well. So in the post below you will not only find the usual book haul photo’s, but book and author info as well. I hope you will take the time to look it over and maybe take a chance at checking out books and authors that you may have forgot about or discover in these post!

I found this amazing book by one of my favorite authors at my favorite local “collector” book store. Mike over at Book Gallery in Phoenix always has the best books. He is also a Sword and Sorcery/Weird Fiction kind a guy. Great to talk to him when I make the trip to his shop. Such a wealth of knowledge. Check him out if you are ever in Phoenix.

Karl Edward Wagner (12 December 1945 – 14 October 1994) was an American writer, poet, editor and publisher of horrorscience fiction, and heroic fantasy, who was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and originally trained as a psychiatrist. He wrote numerous dark fantasy and horror stories. As an editor, he created a three-volume set of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian fiction restored to its original form as written, and edited the long-running and genre-defining The Year’s Best Horror Stories series for DAW Books. His Carcosa publishing company issued four volumes of the best stories by some of the major authors of the so-called Golden Age pulp magazines. He is possibly best known for his creation of a series of stories featuring the character Kane, the Mystic Swordsman.

I bought that when it came out, but you, you son of a gun, have a autographed edition. I have read and reread all of his Kane and most of his short stories. Search out “Exorcisms and Ecstacies” published by Fedogan & Bremer in 1997

Thanks! I was very lucky to find this copy. I also was lucky I had enough store credit to buy it. Otherwise I would have been in bad shape wishing for it! 🙂
